- TeenForce blog 5.1.16
The rebirth of our blog coincides with the launch of our new logo and website. We hope you like the new look as we embark on the next phase of our development at TeenForce.
This past March marked the six year anniversary of the founding of TeenForce. We started in downtown Los Gatos, serving local students with a variety of job placements.Of course, we needed to start with the basics, including office painting, computer set-up, logo design and developing policies and procedures.
I have fond memories of the original crew:Michelle (accounting and procedures) now has two degrees from Washington University in St. Louis, Shelby (staffing operations) is completing her RCST licensing, Kevin (technology) has graduated from Santa Clara University and Catherine (marketing and original logo design) completed her design degree at the Pratt Institute in New York and has never looked back!
Our first job placements were with Princeton Capital, and those four youth have all moved beyond college and into the working world as well.Since then, we have hired and placed over 525 youth who have worked over 240,000 hours and earned over $2.5 million!
Along the way, we learned of the tremendous need for work readiness support from the foster youth population. These remarkable young people are so deserving of our services and the opportunities provided by our business clients. It is truly an honor and a privilege to help lead our community in workforce support for foster youth, who now make up approximately 50% of the TeenForce job candidates.
This past fall, we began to tie in another one of our passions, which is supporting young people who are investing in skills building and career planning while in high school. We have partnered with and moved to the campus of Silicon Valley Career Technical Education. This unique high school and adult education campus is truly a hidden gem in our region and we are thrilled to amplify its story to the business community. And, in 2014, we launched a very successful branch in Morgan Hill to serve youth in the South County.
As we look ahead, we are excited to see what the future holds for TeenForce and the youth that we serve. Our staff of 14 is stronger than ever. Our youth candidates are more skilled and anxious to work than ever before. Our foster youth services are expanding and gaining national recognition. Even President Clinton has singled them out for expansion and replication!
Thanks to all of our employer clients, youth candidates, staff, board members and funding supporters for your unyielding efforts and support. Please return to our blog, website and Facebook page for frequent updates and progress reports.
